Vessel Reveal and What Inspires Brighter Blaze
Before I could create anything else, I had to decide what my candles would live in. Ceramic, glass, tin, molds—the possibilities are endless. But I already carried a vision of how I wanted them to look and feel.
That vision is rooted in the city that has carried me since I first began working and living on my own—Memphis. A city of undeniable beauty and a rich, layered history, Memphis thrives on diversity and the strength of community. It is the beating heart of the Mid-South, a central hub where warehouses, distribution lines, and supply chains keep the world moving.
Everywhere you look, the presence of metal is woven into the fabric of Memphis. Steel, silver, aluminum, and titanium line our streets and shape our neighborhoods. They are reminders of a city built on industry, movement, and resilience—trains, planes, and automobiles streaming in and out, serving the needs of the people.
My candles are an ode to that story: to the past and present of Memphis, to the hardship and hard work, to the unshakable spirit of resilience. By choosing metal tins, I bring forward a piece of this industrious character, offering candles that honor the city’s strength while carrying its light into everyday life.
My candle vessels are inspired by the natural beauty and hardworking spirit of Tennessee. Rooted in sustainability and upcycling, the design should honor the rustic charm while keeping a minimal, handmade feel. Each candle is meant to capture both the warmth of the outdoors and the soulful connection between land, community, and everyday living.
The goal is to create a piece that blends luxury with simplicity, offering elegance without excess. Whether for travelers, nomads, or anyone who enjoys the ritual of lighting a candle, the design adapts to every lifestyle and space, making it a universal companion for comfort and ambience.
Starting out, I’ll use aluminum tins designed for durability, style, and sustainability. The lightweight, heat-safe tins seal in fragrance, are easy to transport, and can be reused or recycled after use. Their sleek, versatile design fits any space and provides a customizable surface for unique artist-designed labels. Compact and stackable, these tins are cost-effective for business, supply-chain ready, and perfect for gifting.
Next, will come figuring out the candle math for testing each tin this week. We’ll see how this goes!
